Description
Pyramid Lake is about 35 miles north of the Reno-Sparks area of Northern Nevada. It is a tribal reservation of the Paiute, who manage activities of the lake.
The lake is the largest remnant of ancient Lake Lahontan that covered much of northwestern Nevada at the end of the last ice age. Pyramid Lake was the deepest point in Lake Lahontan, reaching an estimated 890 feet. Pyramid Lake is fed by the Truckee River, which is mostly the outflow from Lake Tahoe. The Truckee River enters Pyramid Lake at its southern end. Pyramid Lake has no outlet, with water leaving only by evaporation, or sub-surface seepage.
This was photographed in late January after a brief snowstorm--in a very dry year, 2014.
This photo took third place with 3141 entries in the contest "Trees and Landscapes that Stir the Imagination." Thanks!

Good 'un! How do you get you images to appear so large on the website? JD
Janis Knight replied:
thanks. I think the size depends on how large the file is-- and this is a large file :)
